Outstanding bio pre-treatment
In three water treatment plants in Canada extremely bad raw water is treated with great success with combined biofiltration and RO membrane treatment. By the use of Filtralite® as a biofilm carrier the biological treatment is very efficient even for a low temperature brackish water. The biological pretreatment removes all nutrient and energy sources that can create biological growth on the membrane surface and any kind of biofouling of the RO membrane is avoided.
The biological pretreatment gives ideal operating conditions for the RO membrane, which can be run for a very long time before any cleaning is needed. This gives good and stable operation of the treatment plant and low operating costs.
