Reduce costs with Filtralite

The porous Filtralite filter media provides low head loss and high storage capacity in the filter, resulting in long filter runs. In dual media filters the use of Filtralite as the top layer, instaed of the traditional anthracite, will increase the lengt of the filter runs by about 25%. This means fewer stops for backwash and less use of backwash water, resulting in a higher total water production and lower operational costs.

An even better solution is to also replace the sand with Filtralite in the bottom layer. As Filtralite can be produced with different densities it is possible to combine two qualities of Filtralite in a dual media filter. This solution, called Filtralite Mono-Multi, gives extremely low head loss and long filter runs. The bottom layer of Filtralite is much lighter than sand and therefore requires a lower washwater velocity for fluidisation. This means that you can reduce the use of backwash water both due to fewer backwashes and a reduced water consumption for each backwash.
In the attached article, printed in the April 2007 issue of the British magazine WET News, you can read more about the advantages of Filtralite in treatment of potable water.
