Sustainable water treatment starts with efficient materials.

Filtralite® filter media is engineered to improve filtration capacity, reduce maintenance needs, and optimise the use of existing infrastructure. Manufactured in Finland by Leca Finland Oy, our media is part of the Saint-Gobain Group's global commitment to reducing environmental impact through innovation, circularity, and long-lasting solutions.

From local production improvements to system-level performance gains, Filtralite® filter media supports the transition toward more responsible, lower-footprint water treatment worldwide.

Helping You Do More With Less

Filtralite enables more efficient filtration processes. Its high porosity and lightweight nature deliver tangible operational and environmental benefits, which have been validated in both drinking water and wastewater treatment installations:

Reduces water use
Requires up to 2–4 times fewer backwashes, significantly reducing water consumption.
Reduces energy demand
Tests show up to 15% energy savings through fewer backwashes, better flow conditions, and reduced chemical use.
Reduces CO₂ emissions
Decreased energy use directly reduces carbon output.
Long-lasting
Filtralite can last for 20+ years, minimizing waste and raw material extraction.

Responsible Manufacturing in Practice

Filtralite® filter media is manufactured in Europe by Leca Finland Oy, part of the Saint-Gobain Group. The production reflects our commitment to low-impact manufacturing, continuous improvement, and the responsible use of resources.

Sustainability at Leca

  • Biomass instead of fossil combustibles: Our kilns are powered by renewable biomass fuel, significantly reducing fossil CO₂ emissions.
  • Renewable Electricity: Certified green electricity is used at our facility in Finland.
  • Sustainable clay extraction: Before opening new clay areas, we engage openly with local authorities and landowners. Restoration plans are developed collaboratively, and many extraction sites now support increased biodiversity.
  • Aligned with Saint-Gobain’s climate strategy: Leca is part of Saint-Gobain’s global roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Backed by Saint-Gobain’s Global Commitments

As part of Saint-Gobain, Filtralite is aligned with a broader vision of sustainable construction and industrial innovation. Key pillars of Saint-Gobain’s sustainability roadmap include:
