Rodrigo Mello, Service Engineer at Saint-Gobain Canalização.

Brazil’s water sector is evolving rapidly, with innovation driving better performance and sustainability. Filtralite®, the expanded clay filter media from Saint-Gobain, is now entering the Brazilian and South American markets, helping utilities meet rising demand for clean water more efficiently.

According to Rodrigo Mello, Service Engineer at Saint-Gobain Canalização, Filtralite replaces traditional sand and anthracite with a high-porosity medium that increases flow rates and extends filtration cycles. This reduces backwashing by up to 75%, lowers water loss by 60%, and significantly reduces energy consumption.

Filtralite is well-suited to Brazil’s rapid urbanisation, where water production capacity must grow without expanding plant size. Thanks to its efficiency, new treatment plants can be built smaller and at lower cost, while existing facilities benefit from improved output and reduced operating expenses.

With strong results already seen in Europe and now across South America, Filtralite continues to prove itself as a reliable and sustainable solution for modern water treatment.
